Aerotek Solar PV Panel Test Tech. in Berkeley, California

Looking to hire someone who will be responsible for performing various tests on solar PV panels.

Testing Process:

  • Panels arrive at lab

  • Unload panels from the truck (usually paired with another technician)

  • Visual inspection -- examining panels for any cracks, scratches etc.

  • Infrared test -- "flash" station uses infrared camera to take photo of PV cells on the model to ensure all cells are working

  • Chambers -- test chambers are able to adjust temperatures to extreme heat or extreme cold conditions. Panel gets placed in chambers for various durations (1 week, 1 month etc.)

  • Water -- panel is placed in water and soaked for different time durations (how the panels would withhold in heavy rain, extreme weather conditions etc)

  • Pressure -- machine places pressure on panel to test how much weight the panels can hold. Example: piles of snow on the panel

  • After each test, the technician will document each outcome in the company's internal software (similar to Excel)

*Panels typically go through each test 5-6 times*

Day to Day:

Have sets of testing areas. Have the employees move the modules to the testing area. Perform the test themselves and follow the SOP and document the data. It is very repetitive. What they do is neat but the repetitive makes it difficult because folks get bored. The over all thought moving modules into there and doing the testing is neat but the repetitiveness is what gets people. Ask how they are with repetitive work. Once you get into flash testing and pan testing gets more mentally engaging. You have to work up to get that. Huge 80 lb modules lifting with one other person.

$22-$30/hr based of experience.

Monday - Friday from 6:00 AM-3:30 PM
