Aerotek CNC Machinist/Programmer in North Charleston, South Carolina

Job Title: CNC Machinist/Programmer

Job Description

As a CNC Machinist/Programmer you will be responsible for reading and interpreting technical blueprints, inputting design specifications, adjusting machine cutting paths, and performing quality checks on the final product. In addition you will be responsible the set-up and operation of various computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools to produce or repair/refurbish precision parts

  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances of workpieces, products, or equipment using instruments such as micrometers or vernier calipers

  • Program mills and lathes by entering instructions and setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches

  • Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications

  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders

  • Operate cutting/grinding equipment and perform precision machining operation

  • Collaborate with numerical control programmers to ensure proper functioning and output that meets specifications

  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines

  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process

  • Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition

  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products

  • Support projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing

  • Dispose of scrap or waste material in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations

  • Evaluate machining procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with setting up and programming Mills and Lathes

  • Experience with MasterCAM, EdgeCAM, or other CNC-based programming software

  • Blueprint reading
