Description: Lumber Yard Forklift Operator

There is a lumber yard and a warehouse. If the candidate is performing better in one area, they'll keep them in that area. Looking for someone who is flexible in working either shift, as sometimes due to business needs they will need them to work in the other department. Have to be comfortable working outdoors.

• Lumber yard shift: 7am-3:30pm

• Warehouse shift: 9am till final truck is loaded

OT is optional, but they are looking for somebody who wants to stick around and help out. Summer is their busy season, normally around 44-50 hours a week in the summer, and more around 40-45 in the winter.

For the lumber yard, they will be operating 10k-12k hysters. They will be lifting pieces of lumber and not pallets. (Could be up to 60 feet). They will have a chainsaw and will have to cut to specification while using a tape measure (Competent at math). They will be loading this wood onto flatbeds and securing it. Also, they will be using a bander machine to put bands around pieces of lumber to hold them together.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

•Reads hand written or system generated sales order to determine product

•Notes all special instructions for filling an order

•Operates chainsaw and other saw equipment

•Operates forklift safely at all times following all safety rules and regulations

•Performs daily inspections of forklift(s) as required by OSHA and Capital Lumber Company standards

•Notifies Supervisory of any necessary equipment maintenance/repair or safety concerns

•Bands lumber product for storage or shipping

•Assists in moving of inventory for storage within the yard area as directed

•Properly stores inventory–level and covered as necessary

•Assists in inventory and/or cycle counts as directed

•Assist in keeping all lanes and areas clean and clear for traffic

•Perform other work related duties as assigned by your supervisor and be flexible and adaptable to changes that will occur during the course of employment

Forklift, lumber, chainsaw, warehouse, Hyster

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• At least one year of outdoor forklift experience. (10k-12k Hyster's)

• If they don't have lumber experience, pipeyard or metal experience would also be similar as they are long pieces of nonpalletized freight.

• Good math skills

• Willing to learn how to operate a chainsaw

• Tape measure

• They are open to people who only have a year of warehouse sit-down forklift experience.

Training Period

• Learn how to use the chainsaw

• Certified and trained on the forklift

• Shadow for 1-2 weeks

- Ops manager will teach how to interpret orders
